New Community Corporation is recognized as one of the largest, most comprehensive community development corporations in the United States. It was founded by Monsignor William J. Linder in 1968 after the Summer Disorders in Newark with the purpose of helping residents in the area.

New Community’s mission is to help residents of inner cities improve the quality of their lives to reflect individual God-given dignity and personal achievement. It has a variety of offerings, including affordable housing, health care, education, training, childcare and economic development.

The organization provides services from cradle to grave, starting with early learning centers for infants up to its Extended Care Facility which provides nursing home care to the elderly. In between, there are after-school programs and summer camp for youth, a federally-insured credit union, a transitional housing facility for homeless families, an accredited post-secondary career and technical school, an emergency food pantry, mental and behavioral health services and a Family Resource Success Center that helps individuals get assistance from a variety of sources.
